Yam Ice Cream and Hitting the Bitumen

Turns out I didn't need to veer after all, a bit of a bump and then onto sealed road for me.

This week in food: My first bowl of yam ice cream - the purple colour alone made me smile; fresh made scones, silverside and pickle sandwiches and pear in brandy jelly with ice cream at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club; lunch by the beach in Rockingham today with Mum, Dad and Boot; half a lemon meringue - very light - at the Gloria Jeans in Borders; oh, and tea (that's dinner for people who don't eat tea) at David Jones - if you sit at a counter the seats are very comfy.

Beyond the Bumps

I'd say I'm stuck in a rut but I think it's more like I'm travelling down a corrugated road when there's a smooth hot-mixed road right beside me. If only I could bring myself to veer left, or pick up the phone or send that e-mail or buy that laptop - make a decision! I'm sure there's a whole world out there beyond the bumps.

retinal sin the island of reflection

Maybe the best search referral yet, from Google Turkey.

Too lazy to blog is my latest excuse. Bleah. I planned to be at Gill's hours ago, I need to go to the supermarket and I just want to go for a walk. Went to Carnegies on Murray St for a drink yesterday arvo and watched the staff climb a ladder to reach the back-lit shelves of liquor. Ate out in Northbridge and came home early. I'm hoping I can give tandem cycling a go soon - might make me less lazy.

Looking After Myself

Two quiet weekends and a trip down south. Beautiful day Tuesday in Busselton and a lovely light came in through the stained glass windows at St Joseph's Church, where we celebrated my Nanna's life. My grandparents married there, and so did my my parents. Rose petals at the graveside made me smile in the sun.

Back to work on Wednesday after a bus trip home. I think I need to write myself untired. I cancelled everything this weekend except swish, where I don't need to talk. T works out a month's worth of tension at swish and I have the bruises to prove it. I'm not tough, I just don't want to lose my nerve before I buy some protective clothing. A priority yesterday, the protective clothing. Today I bought fishnet stay ups at Myer with J. So bring it on and I'll look after myself.

Nanna at Villa

Nanna died yesterday morning, not far from the beach and in a place surrounded by peppy trees, near where I grew up.

Rainy Days

I'm not sure where my umbrella is and I think I should find it. I'm not wishing the clouds away just yet because I left my sunnies at Curtin FM on Wednesday after recording Consumer Voice. I am now full bottle on Nearer to Nature after my one and only interview.

Today I bought two pairs of jeans and two wool tops in the sales. Not fancy and still not cheap but I like them. I feel good about one of the wool tops because I found it jumbled on a rack, the only one of it's kind left. Later I found a pair of jeans exactly the same as the ones I wear to work but a size bigger (hey, it's winter, it can't hurt!) at almost half the price. Umbrella or not, it was worth a trip into town.
